Gojwara residents demand repair of dilapidated link road
Srinagar, Dec 24: The residents of Malik Sahib area of Gojwara in Downtown have expressed resentment against the failure of authorities to repair the dilapidated link road in their area.
The residents said that for over a decade, the link road has not been repaired, which is inconveniencing them.
A delegation of residents from the area said that there are huge potholes on the road causing inconvenience to commuters. “It is a narrow link road, and most of the time, it is used by two-wheelers and pedestrians. Dozens of households use this road daily, and its condition is very bad. At various places, the road has caved in with huge potholes which are waterlogged during downpours,” said Aijaz Ahmad, a local.
The locals said that the dilapidated road is causing accidents and many times, locals are having narrow escapes.
“It has been over a decade that there has been no major development work on the road. Authorities should either go for blacktopping or lay tiles on the road. Under smart cities, various link roads have been developed, but we are always left out. We appeal to both SMC and Smart City officials to look into the matter,” said Tariq Ahmad, another resident.
The aggrieved residents said that after sunset, followed by power shutdowns, pedestrians face immense hardships in navigating the dilapidated road in the dark. They said that this can lead to accidents for elderly people and children who often use the road. An official from SMC said that they would look into the issue and address it accordingly.
“We have been continuously working on roads and lanes under our jurisdiction and we will ensure to address this issue as soon as possible,” said the official.
