GOC 15 Corps reviews security situation in south Kashmir
Srinagar, May 18: Amid intensified anti-terror operations following the recent Pahalgam terror attack and two encounters that resulted in the elimination of six terrorists, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava, undertook a visit to Rashtriya Rifles (RR) battalions deployed in South Kashmir and reviewed the overall security situation.
During the visit, Lt Gen Srivastava interacted with troops of the RR and other security forces involved in recent operations, including Operation Keller and Operation Nader, both of which led to the neutralising of hardcore terrorists and recovery of large quantities of war-like stores.
Commending the security personnel for their precise planning and swift execution, the Chinar Corps Commander lauded the troops’ professionalism and high level of coordination during the operations. He also praised the orderly evacuation of civilians from the line of fire, highlighting the humanitarian approach taken during live combat situations.
The visit comes in the wake of heightened alert across the Kashmir. Security forces have since ramped up counter-infiltration measures and intensified cordon and search operations in sensitive areas, particularly in the Anantnag, Shopian, and Kulgam districts.
Sources in the security establishment said the recent Pahalgam terror attack has acted as a trigger for stepped-up surveillance and combing operations in forested and upper reaches, which are suspected to be used as hideouts by foreign militants.
Lt Gen Srivastava reiterated Chinar Corps’ resolve to eliminate terrorism from the Valley. “Chinar Corps stands firmly by its commitment to maintain peace and ensure a terror-free Kashmir,” Chinar Corps- Indian Army said in post on X, while stressing on continued synergy between Army, police, CRPF, and intelligence agencies in maintaining operational dominance.
