GMC Srinagar organises programme on Regional Surgical Disorders

Srinagar, Apr 27: Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar organised an educational programme focussing on sensitising undergraduate MBBS students to the intricacies of surgical disorders prevalent in our region.

The program marks a significant milestone in GMC’s ongoing efforts to empower the next generation of medical professionals.

Under the expert guidance of Prof (Dr) Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, GMC Srinagar, the programme brought together students and faculty members for a day of insightful discussions, engaging presentations, and collaborative learning experiences.

“Throughout the day, our MBBS students showcased their newfound knowledge and expertise, delving into a wide range of topics spanning gastrointestinal disorders, urological conditions, and beyond. This educational activity was held as part of the Laparoscopic skill advancement program (LAPSAP) - a flagship educational initiative of the postgraduate department of surgery, GMC Srinagar,” said Prof Mir.

“The event provided a platform for students to deliberate on these complex surgical disorders under the mentorship of senior faculty members. “The programme not only deepened their understanding of regional healthcare challenges but also fostered a spirit of empathy and cultural sensitivity in patient care. Through interactive sessions and hands-on workshops, participants gained practical insights into diagnosis, treatment modalities, and surgical techniques, preparing them for the realities of clinical practice,” he added.

Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar Prof (Dr) Iffat Hassan Shah congratulated the Department of Surgery for this initiative and expressed the desire that such activities should become a norm in the future.

“The success of this program underscores the dedication and commitment of the academic community at GMC Srinagar to nurturing excellence in medical education and healthcare delivery. By harnessing the collective expertise and experiences of students and faculty members alike, we are paving the way for a brighter future in healthcare for our region. Senior faculties from other departments were also present in the event,” she said.
