Srinagar, Apr 12: The Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar successfully hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event centered on the theme of Gastrointestinal Surgery.

The academic gathering brought together eminent surgeons and academicians from across the country, fostering meaningful discourse and the exchange of advanced surgical knowledge.

The event featured distinguished speakers including Dr. Avinash Supe, Emeritus Professor, Dean KEM & SION hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Viniyendra Pamecha, Head of the Department of Liver Transplantation at ILBS, New Delhi, Dr. Mahendra Pal Singh, Prof Department Of Surgery, MMCMSR Ambala who spoke on Management of Complex Anorectal fistulas, and Dr. Abdul Hameed Samoon, Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at GMC Srinagar, who delivered a focused presentation on The use of Lasers in advanced Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) surgeries. All were felicitated in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field.

Also present were Dr. Lovenish Bains, Professor of Surgery at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi, and Dr. Faraz Ahamad from King George’s Medical University (KGMC), Lucknow. Their sessions addressed key topics in HPB surgery and fistula-in-ano, with an emphasis on contemporary approaches and evolving surgical strategies.

The CME was organised under the leadership of Dr. Iqbal Saleem Mir, Professor and Head of the Department of Surgery, whose pivotal role and unwavering dedication were instrumental in the event's success. “Dr Mir has been a driving force in advancing surgical education at GMC Srinagar, continually promoting academic excellence and professional growth.
