GMC Srinagar doctors achieve feat: Conduct Whipple surgery in record time
Srinagar, Jan 27: Building on their previous success, a team of surgeons led by Prof Mushtaq Chalkoo, a renowned faculty and laparoscopic surgeon at GMC Srinagar, has achieved another medical milestone by completing a complex laparoscopic Whipple's surgery in a record time of 2 hours and 55 minutes at the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.
This achievement comes on the heels of their previous record, where they completed a similar procedure in 4 hours, a feat considered exceptional globally. The Whipple procedure, a highly specialised surgery, is typically performed at advanced centers and requires a high level of expertise.
According to Prof. Chalkoo, the team's expertise and finesse in advanced laparoscopic surgeries have enabled them to reduce the surgery time significantly. "In the best hands, the procedure typically takes 6-7 hours. We have reduced the time of surgery, and this achievement highlights our commitment to providing advanced surgical and medical care," he said.
He complimented the Department of Anesthesia team for their expertise and cooperation. The patient, a 50-year-old from Kupwara, was diagnosed with peri-ampullary tumor and adenocarcinoma and underwent a Whipple procedure. The surgery was completed without complications, and the patient's postoperative status has been uneventful.
This achievement showcases the exceptional skills and dedication of the medical team at GMC Srinagar and reinforces their position at the forefront of advanced surgical care in J&K, Prof Chalkoo said.
