GMC Srinagar breaks new ground
Srinagar, Nov 18: The Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has secured approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for two DM Neurology seats, marking the first-ever approval of DM seats under any speciality in a government medical college in J&K.
The college said that the development would take the super-specialisation sector of J&K to new heights.
Prof Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal GMC Srinagar said that the approval for DM Neurology was received from NMC, marking a new beginning for the medical education sector.
She said that the medical college had applied for more DM courses and approval was expected in due course of time.
“This is the era of super-specialisation and being a medical college with so many speciality hospitals under its ambit, we have to keep striving to improve our expertise and patient care. This is possible with continuous advancement in our academics for which all our departments and faculty are working hard,” Prof Iffat said.
She said the introduction of DM Neurology seats demonstrates the college’s dedication to providing a conducive academic environment, offering courses under various specialities.
Prof Iffat said that the GMC was working keenly on advancing the nursing sector and M Sc Nursing had also been started to improve the standards of nursing in J&K and to provide better career opportunities to the youth.
The college has made significant strides in academic excellence, with the Government College of Nursing, Dewan Bagh, under GMC Srinagar’s administrative control, being allotted 80 seats in Post Basic Nursing in August 2024 and 25 seats in Nursing in September 2024 by the University of Kashmir.
