GMC Srinagar bags 2 DrNB seats from National Board of Accreditations
Srinagar, Apr 9: In a major achievement, GMC Srinagar today received a nod for two DrNB seats from National Board of Accreditations (NBA), an addition that is expected to take the Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) Department of the medical college to the next level of expertise.
The Medical college termed the achievement a leap towards enhancing specialties and super specialties in J&K.
Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof Iffat Hassan Shah said the approval was received on Wednesday. She said, “We are thrilled to receive this accreditation, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff. This achievement will significantly enhance our institution's reputation and provide our students with new opportunities for specialized training."
In November last year, GMC Srinagar also received approval for DM Neurology, the first ever DM seat in J&K. The augmentation of super-specialty areas at GMC Srinagar, Prof Shah said will go a long way in improving the healthcare deliveries across the length and breadth of J&K. “These courses will not only help GMC Srinagar and its tertiary healthcare delivery, but also the new medical colleges here,” she said. Doctors with specialisation and super-specialisation are the need of the hour, she added.
GMC Srinagar is the only medical college in J&K with MCh Urology course. This accreditation marks a major milestone in the development of medical education in Jammu and Kashmir, enhancing the region's capacity for specialized medical training, GMC said.
