Baramulla, Nov 10 : Much to the relief of the patients of north Kashmir, the doctors at Government Medical College Baramulla performed a Laparoscopic-Assisted Distal Gastrectomy (LAGD) on a 55 year old patient.

The LADG is used to treat early gastric cancer. The procedure has less operative blood loss, less pain, early recovery of bowel activity, early restart of oral intake, and a shorter hospital stay with LADG compared with a conventional open method.

The intricate surgery, was performed on Monday by a team of doctors led by Dr H Vaqar, Dr Mir Mushtaq, and marked a significant advancement in the operating procedures.

The surgical team, including anesthetists Dr. Waseem and Dr. Yasir, along with assistants Abdul Hameed, Mudasir, and Nazir Ahmad, executed laparoscopic procedures, demonstrating the hospital's commitment in utilising advanced techniques for patient convenience. The endoscopy, a crucial part of the diagnosis, was skillfully performed by  Dr. Zaffer Kawoosa.

The Principal GMC Baramulla, Prof Dr Ruby Reshi, said that through these advanced surgical procedures, the GMC has elevated the standards of healthcare, providing comprehensive and holistic state-of-the-art care from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up, all under one roof.
