GMC Baramulla performs 4 cochlear implant surgeries in 2 days

Baramulla, Nov 24: The department of ENT, Government Medical college (GMC) Baramulla successfully completed four cochlear implant surgeries in two days.

These surgeries were conducted under the skilled surgical expertise of surgeon, Dr Zafarullah Beigh, and the mentorship of Dr Arvind Kumar Kairo, Additional professor at AIIMS New Delhi. The surgeries marked a significant leap in advanced healthcare at GMC Baramulla.

Dr Nazir Ahmad Khan, Head of the Department of ENT, and Dr Basharat Saleem, Head of the Department of Anesthesia, provided unwavering support, making substantial contributions to the success of these advanced surgeries. Their expertise and dedication were pivotal in creating a conducive environment for the surgical team to excel.

Notably, three of these surgeries were funded under the ADIP scheme of the Govt of India, showcasing the commitment to accessible healthcare. Additionally, one patient’s parents self-funded the world’s most advanced cochlear implant.

“Despite the challenges posed by anatomical deformities in one patient, all surgeries were executed with precision,” said Principal GMC Baramulla, Prof Ruby Reshi, who has been pivotal in starting the cochlear implant surgeries at the institution. With the start of such surgeries, the GMC has emerged as a premier institution in the UT.

The synergy between the Principal and the Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, is a perfect example of combined effort in leading the institution to new heights.
