GMC Baramulla introduces thoracic, vascular branch of CVTS Sub-specialty
Baramulla, Oct 12: The Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has introduced high-end thoracic and vascular procedures of CVTS super-specialty services, a major step in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in north Kashmir.
A statement of GMC Baramulla issued here said that the introduction of specialised medical care within the reach of local communities is aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.
Cardiovascular and thoracic Surgery (CVTS) department, a specialised medical division focused on the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the heart, lungs, and blood vessels within the chest and the vascular system.
“As cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, we specialize in surgery of the heart, lungs, chest, esophagus, and major blood vessels of the body,” the statement said.
This development is expected to reduce patients’ dependence on distant tertiary centres and provide advanced surgical care closer to home.
Since the last four years, the CVTS team at GMC Baramulla has been delivering comprehensive, high-quality surgical services, covering a wide range of Thoracic and vascular procedures.
The thoracic procedures include Thoracotomy for chronic empyema(pus) lung, VATS/Thoracotomy for bullous lung disease(Pneumothorax), VATS/Thoracotomy for cystic lung disease (Hydatid cyst and Bronchogenic cyst), Thoracotomy/VATS decortication for pneumothorax (air in the chest cavity), Pleurodesis with bleomycin/Talc for spontaneous pneumothorax, intercostal tube insertion for hemothorax (blood in chest) and pneumothorax (air in the chest).
The vascular procedures are AV fistula making (Radiocephalic and Brachiocephalic), Brachial and Femoral artery embolectomy (removal of arterial clots from upper and lower limbs) as a surgical emergency, Varicose vein surgery, AV malformation surgery, Heamangioma surgery, and injection sclerotherapy for hemangioma.
