GMC Baramulla achieves landmark milestone in urological super-speciality
Baramulla, Oct 5: The Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has successfully introduced high-end urological super-speciality services, marking a significant milestone in healthcare provision in North Kashmir. This development is expected to reduce patients’ dependence on distant tertiary centres and provide advanced surgical care closer to home.
Since last year, the Urology team at GMC Baramulla has been delivering comprehensive, high-quality surgical services, covering a wide range of endo-urological procedures. These include PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) for complex kidney stones, URSL (Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy) for ureteric calculi, TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate), and TURBT (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour).
The department is also now capable of performing minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgeries, including advanced procedures for urological malignancies. In just ten months, the Urology team of the Department of Surgery has successfully performed around 200 urological procedures at GMC Baramulla.
“This achievement ensures that patients from Baramulla and neighbouring districts no longer need to travel long distances or wait for extended periods to undergo such surgeries at super-speciality hospitals such as SKIMS Soura or GMC Srinagar,” said Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla. “Care is now available closer to home, significantly reducing travel burdens, treatment delays, and associated costs.”
The introduction of these services is seen as a major step in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in North Kashmir, bringing specialised medical care within the reach of local communities and enhancing patient outcomes.
