GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri ransacked after death of patient
Rajouri, Oct 24: Death of a young man sparked strong protests in Associated Hospital of Government Medical College Rajouri. The protesters allegedly ransacked the hospital property .
Reports said the deceased Sikander Abbas resident of ward 8, Rajouri was brought to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri on Monday evening with cardiac illness. He died during treatment.
The family members of deceased started protest in the hospital and alleged that no senior doctor was available for patient and only junior doctors in emergency duty kept providing treatment to the deceased, who, however, passed away.
“ The young man has died as no senior doctor was available in the hospital,” the protesting attendants said. They allegedly ransacked the hospital including emergency ward, entrance, doctors cabin, thrombolysis lounge.
The situation became tense in the hospital due to protest. The Assistant Commissioner Revenue Rajouri Imran Rashid Kataria, Deputy SP Headquarter Mudassir Hussain, SHO Rajouri Aejaz Ahmed Wani and other officers of police reached the spot and tried to pacify the protest that lasted for over five hours . The protesters accused poor healthcare services in the institute and also lambasted the administration for paying no attention towards this vital health institution which is running without a permanent Principal for last two and half years.
The protest was pacified by officers of civil and police administration after hectic efforts. The hospital administration has however stated that best possible efforts were made by three doctors present on duty but all attempts failed and patient breathed his last.
Officials on the other hand said that the hospital property has been damaged to a larger scale which is unfortunate.
