GMC Anantnag performs first double-volume exchange transfusion
Anantang, Jun 2: The Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag performed the first double volume exchange transfusion on a 2.1 kg low birth weight newborn baby with a serum Bilirubin of 30 mg/dl.
A statement of GMC Anantnag issued here said that the baby was having RH incompatibility with severe hyperbilirubinemia.
The baby was discharged on Monday on room air and oral feeds with a serum bilirubin of below 10 mg/ dl.
The Department of Pediatrics thanked the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Director Laboratories and his team for their support in arranging blood for transfusion and performing required investigations timely and swiftly.
The department also thanked MS MMABM Dr Sanjeet Singh Risam and Deputy MS MCCH Dr Mushtaq for their support.
It also thanked the Principal and Dean, Prof Rukhsana Najeeb for leading from the front and for his guidance at every step.
The department also thanked the parents of the newborn baby without whose participation performing this procedure would not have been possible.
