Srinagar, Dec 26: A comprehensive 5-Day training programme on “Grassroot Intervention and Community Training on Rehabilitation Module” was held at GMC Anantnag successfully between December 22 and 26.

The programme was organised by the Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag under the aegis of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, said a press release. In the first phase, a total of 30 Community Health Officers (CHOs) and Health Educators from District Anantnag, working under the Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, were trained.

The programme aimed at strengthening community-level capacity for early identification, intervention, and rehabilitation of individuals affected by substance use disorders.

The programme was held under the overall supervision and guidance of Dr Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal, and Dean GMC Anantnag. The training programme was continuously supervised for all five days by Dr Mansoor Ahmad, Head, Department of Psychiatry, GMC Anantnag. Core training sessions were conducted by two Master Trainers .

The programme was further enriched by guest lectures and interactive sessions delivered by faculty members Dr Rehana Amin assistant professor, senior residents DNB residents and counsellors.

Comprehensive technical and logistical support was provided by the paramedical staff of the department.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session and certificate distribution ceremony, which was graced by Medical Superintendent MMABM Associated Hospital GMC Anantnag Dr Arshad Hassan , the Cheif Medical officer District Anantnag Dr Kalid Parvaiz, HOD Pediatrics and Media Coordinator GMC Anantnag Dr Showkat Hussain Tali. HOD Radiation oncology Dr Shahid Bashir, and Dr Ishtiyaq Ahmad Dar AP radiation Oncology. The training was well received, marked by active participation, engaging discussions, and role-play-based learning, reflecting strong enthusiasm and commitment from the trainees. Phase II and Phase III of the programme will commence shortly and will focus on capacity building of teachers, NGOs, and social workers, further expanding community-based efforts toward substance use prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
