GLOF, flood preparedness reviewed in Leh
Leh, July 12: The Deputy Commissioner/Chairman, DDMA, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve today chaired a meeting regarding preparedness of Glacial Lake Outburst Flow (GLOF) and floods/other disasters in Leh district on Friday.
He instructed all the departments that in case of any disaster there should be no delay in response. DC also added that teams should be formed at the Sub-Divisional levels for quick and efficient flow of information. Additionally, he told the concerned departments to ensure that the nalahs should not have any blockage specially around Leh town and to remove any blockage immediately to allow smooth flow of water. He also instructed the SDMs to conduct a meeting at sub-divisional level to ensure preparedness among their respective departments. Further, village representatives from Gya and Rumbak informed DC, Leh about their concerns regarding the GLOFs near their village
DC Leh instructed the UTDRF team to visit the site at the earliest. The meeting was attended by SSP, Leh, Shruti Arora; SDMs of all the Sub-Divisions; DSP, UTDRF, Sonam Dorjay; State Nodal Officer, Dr Iqbal Ahmed; District Nodal Officer, Dr Skarma P Yountan; President, Contractor Association and other concerned officials.
