Global leaders express solidarity with India
New Delhi, June 12: Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171 on Thursday afternoon, a wave of anguish and solidarity swept across the world.
The global leaders echoed Indias grief over the tragedy.
SHOCKED BY TERRIBLE EVENTS IN AHMEDABAD: KING CHARLES
In his message of solidarity, King Charles said, ìMy wife and I have been desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning. Our special prayers and deepest possible sympathy are with the families and friends of all those affected by this appallingly tragic incident across so many nations, as they await news of their loved ones. I would like to pay a particular tribute to the heroic efforts of the emergency services and all those providing help and support at this most heartbreaking and traumatic time.î
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the scenes from the crash site were ìdevastating,î extending his thoughts to the victims and their families.
The British High Commission in India expressed ìdeep sorrow at the loss of our citizensî and confirmed that efforts were underway to assist affected families.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the crash ìhorrible news.î
In a post on X, he wrote, ìMy deepest condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire people of India on this tragic day. Our thoughts are with all victimsí relatives and close ones in India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada. We share your shock and grief and pray for as many lives to be saved as possible.î
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared her sorrow with a message of solidarity saying, ìWe share your pain. Dear Narendra Modi, Europe stands in solidarity with you and the people of India in this moment of sorrow.î
Portuguese and Canadian diplomats have also extended support.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu said, ìAt this difficult time, the government and people of Maldives stand in solidarity with the people and the Government of India.î
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed deep distress, saying, ìOn behalf of the government and people of Malaysia, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all those affected. We share in India's sorrow and stand in full solidarity as relief efforts continue.î
Former Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said: ìI am deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Nepal stands in solidarity with India in this moment of grief.î
