Girls’ Kabaddi tournament kicks off in Rajouri

Rajouri, July 23: The Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports, organised an inter-block district level Kabaddi tournament for girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme at the Mini Sports Stadium in Rajouri.

Deputy Commissioner Om Prakash Bhagat inaugurated the tournament in the presence of ADC Rajeev Kumar Khajuria, PO ICDS Fareed Kohli, CPO Maqsood Ahmed, DSWO Abdul Raheem, DYSSO Sukhdev Raj, and other officials.

The event showcased talented girl players from various blocks of the district. ADC Khajuria highlighted the importance of sports in shaping youth personalities and characters, emphasizing values like discipline, teamwork, and fair play. He underscored the significance of the BBBP scheme in promoting education and sports among girls, leading to their empowerment.

Deputy Commissioner Bhagat elaborated on the objectives of the BBBP scheme, which aims to educate girls and improve welfare services for them. He stressed the importance of sports activities in promoting healthy lifestyles and combating drug abuse. Bhagat also highlighted various schemes for women, encouraging them to avail the benefits and become independent.

The DC cited examples of famous women personalities, urging the girls to learn from their achievements and strive for excellence. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for women in all aspects of development.
