Ganderbal, Sep 30: As part of the flagship Sewa Parv initiative, the Department of Botany, Government Degree College Ganderbal, on Tuesday organised a beautification and plantation drive at the College Rock Garden.

The refurbished Rock Garden was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, accompanied by DySP Dar Nazir Ahmad and SHO Ganderbal Inspector Shri Sajad Assad, marking the formal opening of the revitalised green space.

Prof Fouzia Fatima, Principal of the College, praised the Department of Botany for the successful transformation of the rock garden. Such projects, she said, not only beautify the campus but also instil in students a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and creativity, while inspiring them to contribute actively to eco-friendly practices.

Prof. Irfana Amin Qureshi, Head, Department of Botany and Nodal Officer, Sewa Parv, said the initiative aimed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the garden while fostering environmental awareness, sustainability, and a sense of collective responsibility among students.

Dr Shabana Aslam, faculty at the Department of Botany and Coordinator of the Programme, emphasised the academic and ecological importance of the initiative, stating that the rock garden is a vital component of any botanical garden as it showcases the diversity and resilience of plants, particularly those adapted to rocky habitats.

Prof. Tabasum Habib and Dr. Afreen Rehman, faculty members, showed active involvement in the project.
