GDC Ganderbal organises poetry workshop
Srinagar, Dec 18: The Department of English of Government Degree College, Ganderbal organised a poetry workshop in the conference hall of the college recently.
The event started with a welcome address by head of the department of English, Prof Marifat who while welcoming the guest speaker, the principal, the faculty and the students briefed about the purpose of the workshop which is to chisel the hidden talents of the students and provide a means of expressions to their ideas and emotions.
In the inaugural address, principal of the college, Prof Fauzia Fatima highlighted the power of poetry which leads to fertile imaginative capability. The guest speaker, Heena Khan known by her pen name Rumuz-e-Bekhudi was then invited formally to start the workshop.
Heena opened the workshop up with the idea of language as the only tool of expression that man was gifted with.
Students were given tasks on each technical aspect to work on. The session closed with an exercise of rhyme, form, metaphor usage on the prompts given by the speaker. The event ended with Heena Khan’s recitation of a Kashmiri poem on “Mother”. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Shazia Qadri and the rapporteur for the event was Tooba Rasheed.
