GDC Ganderbal organises annual road race, promotes fitness among students
Srinagar, May 3: The Department of Physical Education & Sports of Government Degree College Ganderbal successfully organised the Annual College Road Race for Boys and Girls on Saturday as part of its annual sports activities.
The event, as per a statement issued, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various semesters, showcasing their athletic spirit and commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
The race for boys began at College Gate to Thuroo, Dangerpora, and Tulmulla and then returned back to College, covering a distance of approximately 10 km, while the girls' race started from the Tulmulla bus stand and finished at College Gate, covering a distance of 5 km. The participants demonstrated commendable endurance and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Principal of the college, Prof Fouzia Fatima, flagged off the race for boys and girls and appreciated the efforts of the Physical Education Department in promoting physical fitness and organising such events to encourage student participation in extracurricular activities.
Following the conclusion of the race, a valedictory function was held in the college to honour the participants and winners. The event began with a welcome address by the Convener Sports Committee who congratulated all participants for their spirited involvement.
Principal Prof Fouzia Fatima presided over the function as the chief guest and awarded a cash prize of Rs 2500 to the winner of the race in both categories and distributed trophies, medals and certificates to the next 10 position holders. In her address, she emphasised the importance of such events in overall personality development and encouraged students to participate actively in future activities.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Sakhira Bashir and Heena Yousuf of the 2nd semester.
