Baramulla, Dec 9: Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla on Monday organised a one-day workshop to mark the International Day of Anti-Corruption.

The workshop was organised in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), J&K, and the Debating and Creative Expression Committee of the college.

As per the official handout, the workshop commenced with the screening of a documentary, highlighting the global effects of corruption and strategies to address it.

The event was attended by Principal Prof Mohammad Shafi Lone, DySP ACB North Farooq Ahmad Wani, Inspector ACB Tariq Ahmad, faculty, and students.

Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Khaja conducted the proceedings of the programme and highlighted the alarming global statistics on corruption, stating that an estimated $2.6 trillion—about 5 percent of the global GDP—is lost annually due to corruption.

Prof Mohammad Shafi Lone, in his welcome address, emphasised the role of education in nurturing values of integrity and accountability. He encouraged students to uphold transparency and honesty in their daily lives and acknowledged the efforts of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in promoting ethical governance.

Farooq Ahmad Wani, DySP ACB North, shared his insights on the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s efforts to combat corruption. Through real-life examples, he illustrated how corruption undermines governance and society, and urged students to be vigilant and act as whistleblowers in their communities.

Dr Syed Mutahar Aaqib, Coordinator IQAC, delivered the concluding remarks and urged all attendees to make integrity, transparency, and accountability the foundation of their actions.
