GDA launches cleanliness drive
Gulmarg, June 5: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) in collaboration with the Indian Army, Hotelier Club Gulmarg, IISM Gulmarg, allied departments, service providers and local students, celebrated World Environment Day with a series of impactful activities.
The celebration will continue tomorrow with a conclave titled Gulmarg Green Conclave.
Today’s celebration began with a mega cleanliness drive, starting at the Main Market of Gulmarg and extending to the Children’s Park in which more than three hundred volunteers including service providers,students, officers of civil, police, Army and local organisations enthusiastically participated in the cleanup efforts to maintain the beauty of Gulmarg.
Waseem Raja, Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority led the mega cleanliness drive.
While speaking to media persons, he highlighted the importance of community involvement in preserving the environment and appealed to the tourists , hoteliers and other services providers to play their role in making Gulmarg completely polythene and plastic free.”It is heartening to see such a diverse group come together for a common cause. Our collective efforts are crucial in maintaining the ecological balance of Gulmarg,” Raja stated.
The celebrations will continue tomorrow, June 6, with a Cyclothon and the Gulmarg Green Conclave at the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM). These events aim to promote eco-friendly practices and raise awareness about environmental issues among the participants.
Speaking about the ongoing initiatives, Waseem Raja emphasised, “Our commitment to environmental conservation extends beyond a single day.”
The Gulmarg Green Conclave will feature discourse and presentations on various topics, including sustainable tourism, waste management, and conservation strategies. Experts and enthusiasts will share insights and solutions to address environmental challenges.
