GCC condemns ‘assault’ on Dr Sameer Kaul

Srinagar, June 26: The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), J&K, has condemned the "assault" on renowned oncologist and senior NC leader Dr Sameer Kaul, and demanded action against such avoidably violent and humiliating conduct.

In a statement issued here today, the GCC has emphasised that such incidents should not be seen in isolation as "a one-off mishap" and, instead, need to be handled in the overall context of harassment resulting from the so-called "VIP movement" that commuters have to contend with, almost on a daily basis.

“There is a clear need to revisit the regulatory procedures and protocols, as also to restrict the use of red-lights and sirens with due regard to relevant rules and to the orders passed by the Hon'ble Court from time to time,” read the statement.

The Group has also appealed to the public at large to extend full co-operation to Traffic Police and other regulators to help ensure an invariably smooth and secure flow of  traffic.
