Garbage dumps irk Khanyar residents
Srinagar, May 4: Residents of Sumkachbal area of Khanyar in Downtown have complained of lack of sanitation in the locality.
A delegation from the area said that due to delay in lifting of garbage, waste dumps dot various places of the locality. “Due to rise in temperature, accumulated garbage emanates pungent smell. Lack of proper sanitation measures has made our lives miserable,” said a group of locals.
They said the problem is compounded by presence of large number of stray dogs. “Garbage dumps in our locality attract stray dogs. Due to presence of stray dogs, we face problems to venture out. Many carcasses of animals are in the garbage. We make a fervent appeal to Commissioner SMC to direct the concerned officials to ensure proper sanitation in our locality,” they added.
