Gandhi’s principles shaping new J&K: LG

Jammu, Jan 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Tuesday said that the principles of Mahatama Gandhi were shaping a new Jammu and Kashmir. Paying tributes to the Father of the Nation on his death anniversary, the LG said, “Mahatma Gandhiji's principles are shaping a new J&K, which has been a victim of violence and terrorism for more than three decades.

Following the ideals of Bapu, J&K is today creating its new identity as a land of peace, harmony, and brotherhood.”
Attending the event organised by the Gandhi Global Family, J&K, and honouring the family members of freedom fighters, martyrs, social activists, and NGOs for their contribution in nation building, he said that the hymns of Mahatma Gandhi, his message of truth, non-violence, simplicity and equality of all human beings were creating a new consciousness
among the people.

“The annual Shanti Yatra dedicated to spread Bapu's ideals across J&K is inspiring and guiding people towards peace and unity,” Sinha said.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fulfilling Bapu's dream of self-reliant villages and empowered rural India.

“Gandhiji ensured empowerment of youth, women, farmers, and marginalised sections of the society,” the LG said.
He appreciated the endeavours of the Gandhi Global Family J&K, all the organisations and individuals working towards promoting Gandhian values and spreading the noble message of truth and non-violence.

President Gandhi Global Family J&K, Padma Shri S P Varma and Election Commissioner J&K, B R Sharma were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, a two-minute silence was observed at the civil secretariat as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice in the struggle for India's freedom.
