Ganderbal Police seize vehicles without valid documents

Ganderbal, Dec 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday launched a special enforcement drive in Ganderbal targeting vehicles operating without mandatory transfer of ownership documents after sale or purchase, in an effort to prevent misuse of non-transferred or non-local registrations.

Police, in coordination with the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), carried out district-wide checking of vehicles bearing outside-UT registration numbers that continue to operate in Jammu & Kashmir without completing the required transfer of ownership.

Multiple naka points were set up at key locations across Ganderbal, where joint teams conducted thorough inspections to verify documentation and ensure compliance with statutory norms. Strict action was taken against violators found plying non-transferred vehicles, operating without valid documents, or committing other traffic-related offences under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials said the drive aims to enhance road safety, prevent misuse of vehicles with outside registrations, and enforce adherence to legal provisions. They added that similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to maintain discipline on roads and ensure full compliance with motor vehicle rules.

The ongoing campaign forms part of a broader effort to streamline vehicle ownership records, curb irregularities involving non-transferred or non-local registrations, and strengthen overall road safety measures across the district.

Police have appealed to vehicle owners to promptly complete ownership-transfer formalities after purchasing a vehicle and keep all valid documents available during travel.
