Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, while speaking at a Thana Diwas programme at Police Station Gund, said many young people are engaging in drug use and online betting, and warned that the police will take strict action against offenders, including booking them under the Public Safety Act (PSA) if necessary.

“I urge the youth to stay away from drug abuse and refrain from indulging in online gambling via apps, including RSN,” SSP Poswal said.

He added that Ganderbal police will support youth in shaping their future securely and safely by organising career counselling programmes, providing sports infrastructure, and other initiatives to keep them engaged in constructive activities.

SSP Poswal also said that several individuals operate large networks luring people into fake online investment, gambling, and betting schemes. These networks use “mule accounts”—bank accounts opened using fraudulently obtained documents—to move illicit money.

“We have identified and scrutinised at least 4,000 accounts used in these scams, and action has been taken,” he said, advising the public to remain vigilant and avoid sharing bank details, account information, or one-time passwords (OTPs) with anyone.

Commending the residents of Tehsil Gund for their cooperation during the Amarnath Ji Yatra, SSP Poswal said the local population played a key role in ensuring a peaceful conduct of the pilgrimage.

Responding to demands raised by members of the civil society, SSP Poswal assured that the police would address local issues and fulfil requests, including organising a cricket tournament, providing sports kits to teams, and setting up a library and gym centre in the area.

The programme was attended by SHO Police Station Gund Rayees Ahmad, senior citizens, and civil society members.
