Ganderbal, Jan 27: In a proud moment for the district, Faheem Zahoor, a Class 9 student, was honoured by the District Administration Ganderbal with an appreciation certificate for his stellar achievements in the Pencak Sila sport.

As per a release, Faheem clinched two gold medals, one each in the 2nd All India Pencak Silat Championship and the 12th Pre-Teen Sub-Junior National Pencak Silat Championship, held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar.

The felicitation ceremony took place as part of the Republic Day celebrations, acknowledging Faheem’s remarkable dedication and success in the martial art. Faheem’s consistent hard work has earned him a total of six national medals, making him a rising star in the sport.

Faheem credited his family, especially his brother, Ashiq Zahoor, for being a constant source of support and encouragement. "My brother Ashiq’s belief in me pushed me to strive harder, even during challenging times," said the young athlete.

The championships were organized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. Special appreciation was extended to key figures like Coach Murtaza Bhat, Nasir Diggo (President, Pencak Silat Association), Event Manager Iqbal Sir, and Sports Incharge Gazala Ma’am for their unwavering support and guidance.

The school principal where Faheem is undergoing studies praised his achievements, calling them an inspiration for all students. Faheem’s father, Zahoor Ahmad, expressed immense pride, noting, “Winning six national medals, including these two golds, is a testament to Faheem’s determination and the exceptional mentorship he has received.”

Faheem has now set his sights on representing India in international Pencak Silat competitions, aiming to bring more laurels to the country and his hometown of Ganderbal.

This Republic Day honor highlights the importance of nurturing young talent and celebrating the hard work and achievements of the district’s youth in various fields.
