In a letter to J&K Congress President Tariq Hamid Karra, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K C Venugopal said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Mir - who won the Dooru assembly seat with a record margin - the leader of the CLP in J&K.
The order, issued by Venugopal, said, “Following the unanimous resolution of the members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly authorising the Congress President to appoint a new CLP leader, the Congress President has appointed G A Mir as the new CLP leader of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Jammu and Kashmir CLP met in Srinagar on October 11 and left the decision of nominating the CLP to the Congress' central leadership in New Delhi.
