Srinagar, Oct 16: The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union has extended warm congratulations to Omar Abdullah on assuming office as Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, expressing optimism about renewed focus on the region's crucial horticulture sector.

In a press statement issued, Union Chairman Bashir Ahmad Basheer highlighted Abdullah's previous contributions to the horticulture industry during his 2009-2014 tenure. "We welcome Omar Sahab's return as Chief Minister with great hope. His previous tenure saw significant initiatives for fruit growers, and we are confident that under his leadership, the sector will receive the attention it deserves," Basheer stated.

The Union specifically pointed to Abdullah's past record of supporting the horticulture sector, which remains the backbone of Kashmir's rural economy. "The fruit industry faces several challenges that need immediate attention. With Omar Abdullah at the helm, we are optimistic about resolving long-pending issues affecting our sector," the statement emphasised.

"During his previous tenure, he understood the importance of horticulture to Kashmir's economy. We hope this new term will see concrete steps to address infrastructure gaps, market access issues, and modernization needs of our industry," Basheer added.

The fruit growers' body also expressed confidence in Abdullah's ability to navigate the unique challenges facing the sector, including weather-related concerns, transportation issues, and market fluctuations.
