From Smart Keys to Gas Safety: Baramulla's young innovators make their mark

Srinagar, Jan 15: From Young innovators to educators and from philanthropists to entrepreneurs, the work and the contribution of all the unsung heroes of Baramulla was recognised in an event on Wednesday.

The event titled-Shan-e-Varmul was organised by the Dagger Division Baramulla at Thimaya Hall Baramulla to acknowledge and felicitate the real heroes of the district for their contribution towards society in diverse fields.

These included young innovators, educators, philanthropists and those who have shown acts of bravery while serving society.

One of the young innovators included Sheikh Anzar from Sheeri in Baramulla outskirts who has developed an automatic gas detector to prevent asphyxiation deaths. Anzar has been issued a patent for his project and was awarded second position in the recently held competition in New Delhi.

Another schoolgirl from the Baramulla Shahida was also awarded at the occasion for showcasing her innovations at the international stage.

A student of Government Higher Secondary School Fatehgarh Baramulla came up with an innovative idea in 2018 about a smart key with a sensor (fingerprint) to detect the age and license number of drivers. In 2021, she received a prestigious national award from NIF for the project.

The awardees were shortlisted through an exhaustive nomination-cum-vote by the civil society of Baramulla. Over 13000 citizens nominated around 57 accomplished individuals following which the list was prepared for the felicitation.

The awardees were felicitated by MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah, MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Baig, GOC 19 Infantry Division and Commander Artillery Brigade Brigadier Rajat Bhat.

Besides the felicitations, the event also witnessed the remarkable performances of the students enrolled at Chinar YUVA Baramulla.

Speaking on the sidelines of the function MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah congratulated the Dagger Division for holding such an event saying that recognising the contribution of unsung heroes inspires others to strive for the best.

"Such occasions encourage others to contribute towards society. The Army Goodwill School in Tangmarg is doing a marvellous job in imparting education to the common masses. I congratulate the GoC 19 infantry division for holding such an event for these achievers," MLA Gulmarg said.

He said the public government is always at the forefront to help these young passionate youth.

MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Baig while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the function said Shan-e-Varmul was one of the Unique festivals organised by the Army.

"They recognised the contribution of the people which will inspire others to work for betterment of the society. I suppose the government should also organise such events to recognise the contribution of unsung heroes which is the best way to remain connected with the people," MLA Baramulla said.
