From Plough to Prosperity | Anantnag aglow with Kisan Diwas

Anantnag, Dec 23: The Agriculture Production and Farmers’ Welfare Department Anantnag Saturday celebrated Kissan Diwas across the districts in 22 agriculture zones with a main function held at sub-division Dooru.

An official spokesman in a statement issued here said that Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, exhorted that on-ground implementation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) would change the economic fortune of the farming community of the Anantnag.

On the occasion, an interactive session between the officers and farmers was organised in which different initiatives, intervention schemes, and collaborative efforts were discussed threadbare, feedback from the farmers was taken, and different strategies were discussed.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, addressing the event highlighted the importance of coordination between the farmers and officers of the department.

He said that the best way to celebrate Kissan Diwas was to increase the frequency of visits to farmer’s fields and make the farmers’ community more and more aware of the different programmes including the centrally sponsored schemes and flagship programmes of the department.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag, said that the J&K government had approved 29 projects under the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors, and implementation of these projects would not only energise the agriculture sector but also change the economic fortune of the farming community of the district.

He sought the cooperation of farmers in the implementation of different projects and programmes and said that it was the cooperation between the farmers and the officers and officials of the department that decided the successful implementation of a project.

The Agriculture Extension Officers celebrated the event in their respective zones with an overwhelming response from the farmers on their efforts towards the betterment of the farming community.

A large number of progressive farmers also attended the event organised in the zones of the department.

Kisan Diwas National Farmers Day is observed on December 23 across the country to praise the farmers as they are the spine of India.

The day was chosen to honour the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh.
