Kangan, Apr 22: In a remarkable achievement, Nazir Ahmad Bijran, a youth from Kangan area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, has cracked the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams after previously clearing the Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) exams in 2023.

The UPSC declared results on Tuesday, with Nazir securing Rank 847. Son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Bijran, Nazir belongs to a tribal community from Poshkar village in Kangan. He was previously serving as Block Development Officer (BDO) Langate after clearing the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Exams in 2023.

Speaking to Greater Kashmir, Nazir said he completed his schooling from a private institution in Kangan, earned his B.Tech in civil engineering from the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, and later completed his master's degree in economics from JNU Delhi.

"Before clearing the JKAS exams in 2023, I was serving as Assistant Registrar, Cooperatives Ganderbal," he said.

Nazir revealed he had dreamed of cracking UPSC since his school days and credits his success to his parents' encouragement and support. "It was only with the support of my family, particularly my parents, that I achieved my goal. After my results came out, I feel as if it's their part of the dream that has come true."

He emphasised self-study and strategic preparation rather than extensive coaching, though he had some exposure from Jamia Milia recently. "Everyone can tell you what to study, but I think what's more important for these kinds of exams is knowing what not to study," he noted.

Nazir's elder brother, Ghulam Hassan, a government employee, expressed pride in his achievement. "He has always been committed to whatever he does in his life, and this has always helped him reach his goals."

With this achievement, Nazir aims to serve society and become a better administrator.
