From Gulmarg meadows to LoC, north Kashmir remains abuzz with IDY activities

Baramulla, June 21: The north Kashmir districts on Friday witnessed a vibrant celebration of the 10th International Day of (IDY) with activities spanning Gulmarg meadows to Kaman Post at the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, and from the main town of Kupwara to the remote Teetwal area.

A session was also held in the Keran sector of Kupwara district.

As the main event of the 10th IDY was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from She-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, amid inclement weather, yoga events were held across all districts of north Kashmir.

Enthusiasm and passion marked the events across the region wherein the people and officers from the civil administration participated in the yoga activities to promote physical and mental well-being through yoga.

In Baramulla and Kupwara, the main yoga events were held at the playgrounds of the Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) which saw massive participation of the youth, particularly students which highlighted the growing interest of the younger generation in yoga.

In Baramulla, the main function was held at Prof Showkat Ali Stadium wherein Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa joined the youth in performing yoga.

This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ resonated with the local community, who turned out in large numbers to participate in the event.

In Kupwara, the main function was held at GDC Kupwara which was attended by DC Ayushi Sudhan.

On the other hand, the Indian Army organised dual yoga sessions at Kaman Post - one for Army soldiers and officers, and another for the local population.

Additionally, the Dagger Sappers of the Indian Army performed yoga while floating on the mystic River Jhelum and its banks near Jabla Bridge in Uri.

In Baramulla, the troops of the Artillery Brigade assembled in a perfect Tiranga formation to perform yoga, symbolising unity and discipline.

The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gulmarg, Municipal Committee (MC) Gulmarg, Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Department, Education, ADT Gulmarg, J&K Tourism Development Corporation, Ayush Department, local hoteliers, and service providers celebrated the IDY event at the picturesque Gulmarg Golf Course.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants including students, officials, hoteliers, and local stakeholders, promoting the holistic benefits of yoga and fostering both physical and mental well-being within the community and among the visitors.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) GDA, Waseem Raja thanked all participants and partners for their support and enthusiasm.

In Bandipora, the Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated the day to strengthen the physical and mental well-being of BSF personnel.

The Sector Headquarter of BSF Bandipora organised a session with the active participation of the BSF personnel and school children.

Speaking on the occasion, Commandant Sanjay Mukul Kispotta highlighted the significance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental toughness, and spiritual balance, especially in challenging border environments.
