The largest congregation was held at Dargah Hazratbal, where thousands of devotees assembled to have a glimpse of the holy relic. The Hazratbal Shrine witnessed a huge rush of devotees as the shrine was abuzz with Naat Khwani and Darood-o-Azkaar. Emotional scenes were witnessed after the Friday prayers when the holy relic was displayed. People were seen asking for forgiveness and praying for their well-being during display of the holy relic.

“We are eagerly waiting for display of the holy relic as it is close to our hearts. We pray for good health and prosperity of our families and the whole of Kashmir. I come to offer prayers here every year during Milad… it gives me peace of heart and mind,” Zamrooda, a female devotee, said.

The markets across Hazratbal wore a festive look and vendors and shopkeepers had decorated their stalls with lights and other decorative items.

“These events are significant, both religiously and economically. Amid the business slump, these events breathe new life into the market,” said Zahoor Ahmad, a vendor.

Officials from the administration said that special arrangements were put in place to ensure that the event is held smoothly.

They said that all departments including J&K Police, PDD, SRTC, SMC, and Health department, have made requisite arrangements in view of the event.

“Special sanitation drives were carried around all the major mosques and shrines. All the men and machinery were put in place to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to any devotee,” said an official.

Congregational prayers were also held at Jenab Sahab Soura, Asar-e-Sharif Shahri Kalashpora, Lal Bazar, Khanqah-e-Maula, Ziarat Hazrat Dastgeer Sahab (RA), Syed Yaqoob Sahab (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja Naqshband Sahab (RA), and Ziarat Makhdoom Sahib (RA).
