Fresh spell of snowfall throws life out of gear in Sopore
Sopore, Jan 27: A fresh spell of snowfall that began on Monday evening has once again disrupted normal life across Sopore subdivision, with upper reach areas bearing the brunt of the weather.
Sopore including upper reach areas Rampora, Rajpora, Cherhaar, Yemberzalwari, Muqam, Marbal and other adjoining areas witnessed heavy snowfall, with accumulation recorded at nearly eight inches, leading to disruption of traffic, power supply and daily activities.
The fresh snowfall rendered several interior and link roads slippery and inaccessible, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents. Normal movement of vehicles was affected, particularly in higher altitude areas, while people were forced to remain indoors due to harsh weather conditions.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore, SA Raina said that men and machinery were pressed into service since early morning to restore normalcy on priority basis. He said that snow clearance operations were first taken up on main highways, including Sopore main town and the Watergam–Rafiabad road stretch, to ensure smooth movement of essential services and traffic.
