Srinagar, Mar 21: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Thursday said that conduct of free and fair Lok Sabha elections and Amarnath Yatra in the ongoing year is significant task for Jammu and Kashmir administration.

He noted the administration is fully prepared and all arrangements required for both events will be in place adequately.

“The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been imposed and is aimed to provide a level playing field to all. Keeping the circumstances into account the situation is being closely monitored by Chief Election Office J&K with all DEO’s and REO’s”, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir VK Bidhuri as per Greater Kashmir told reporters on the sidelines of an event held at KICC.

He said the conduct of free and fair Lok Sabha elections and Amarnath Yatra in 2024 is a significant task for J&K administration. “Both conduct of LS polls in a free and fair manner, and Amarnath Yatra in 2024 are significant tasks for Jammu & Kashmir administration. Yesterday a meeting regarding Amarnath Yatra took place. We are trying our best to provide good arrangements to people during the Yatra. Further regarding elections all arrangements are underway. We are hopeful that there will be a record voter turnout this year as we are getting satisfactory inputs from the ground,” he said.

Responding to a query, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said that the work on roads in Shehr-e-Khas is underway and the process of blacktopping will be started soon there. “Once weather is improved the blacktopping will be started. This is ongoing work and already a part of tender. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will not affect the development of road works,” he noted.

He also extended Novroz greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the occasion.
