Four killed in road accident on Jammu–Srinagar highway in Udhampur
BANIHAL, Jan 27: Four persons were killed in a major road mishap near Sharda Mata on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district on Tuesday.
According to reports, a bus en route to Udhampur, allegedly being driven at a high speed, hit a motorcycle near the accident spot. The impact proved fatal for both the motorcycle rider and the pillion rider, who died on the spot.
Moments later, the same bus hit two mechanics who were engaged in repairing a Mahindra load carrier parked along the roadside. Both the mechanics sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Police reached the scene immediately after the incident and initiated necessary legal formalities. The bodies were shifted for medico-legal procedures.
Police officials identified the deceased as Sanjeev Kumar, son of Ashok Kumar, of Rehmati Udhampur; Rayees Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohammad Shaban, resident of Budgam Kashmir; Mukesh Prajapati, a CRPF personnel posted with 52 Battalion in Kishtwar; and Rattan Lal, son Mohan Lal, of Batote in district Ramban.
Further one Bimla Devi, wife of Surjeet Singh, resident of Chenani Udhampur injured in the accident and has been admitted in GMC-associated hospital Udhampur.
