Four Indian students from Maharashtra drown in Russia
New Delhi, June 07: In a tragic incident, four Indian students from Maharashtra drowned while studying at the Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University in Veliky Novgorod, Russia. The Ministry of External Affairs reported that the students drowned in the Volkhov River. A fifth Indian student was rescued and is currently receiving medical attention.
"Our Consulate in St. Petersburg remains in contact with the university and local authorities, providing all possible assistance. Local emergency services have recovered two bodies from the Volkhov River so far. We offer our condolences to the families. The search for the remaining two missing students continues," stated the press release from the Ministry of External Affairs.
The five students involved in the accident were from the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. The Consulate in St. Petersburg is coordinating with local authorities for the repatriation of the mortal remains and remains in contact with the families and the district administration in Jalgaon.
