Forum for Human Rights in J&K condemns Pahalgam terror attack

New Delhi, Apr 24: The Forum for Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on tourists and locals in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, calling it a “heinous communal act” that left at least 28 people dead and many others critically injured.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Forum expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the victims’ families. “We unequivocally condemn this reprehensible act of terrorism,” the statement said, adding that the Forum stands in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who observed a shutdown in response to the incident.

“Terrorism in all its manifestations constitutes a serious threat to the welfare of citizens in Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country,” the Forum said.

The group also urged the government to take coordinated steps in response. It recommended that the Prime Minister and Home Minister consult with the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, members of the elected administration, and legislators to formulate a counter-terrorism strategy that upholds humanitarian standards and protects civilian rights.

The statement was signed by prominent public figures, including former Home Secretary Gopal Pillai and former Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, along with retired judges, senior military officials, and human rights advocates.
