Srinagar, Jul 24: Ace broadcaster and former Deputy Director General Doordarshan, Basharat Ahmad Khan passed away during wee hours of Thursday in Srinagar.

His Jinaza prayers were held at 12 noon in the parking slot of PWD Complex opposite Masjid-e-Ibrahim on airport road Humhama.

His demise was condoled by people from different walks of life including his colleagues who remembered him as a suave but strict colleague who remained in the service of Akashvani and Doordarshan for decades and earned admiration for his integrity, efficiency and decency.

"Apart from his professional expertise in program management, his other side of personality reflected his deep knowledge of language and literature especially in English and Urdu," Fayyaz Sheheryar wrote on his Facebook Page.

"He wrote beautifully, spoke sweetly and became popular far and wide. He was blessed with the asset of drawing a line between the language of a book and that of Radio," Sheheryar recalled.

Basharat Khan was not keeping good health and succumbed to the severity of the ailment, Sheheryar wrote on Facebook.

Notably, Basharat Khan rendered his services in Kashmir and was later transferred to Delhi. He was an ace broadcaster, producer and retired as Deputy Director General Doordarshan.

He was remembered as one of the honest and Hardworking officers by his colleagues.
