Forest fire breaks out in Sopore’s Kandi Range

Sopore, Jan 10: A fire broke out on Saturday in the Kandi Forest Range of Sopore, causing concern among locals and forest officials. The blaze was reported from Compartment No. 23 of the forest range, where dry vegetation and forest litter quickly caught fire.

Soon after the incident was noticed, forest department officials rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting operations.

With the help of forest guards, officials, and local volunteers, efforts were made to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining compartments.  According to officials, no loss of human life or property has been reported so far. However, patches of forest land, Trees and dry grass were damaged in the incident. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, though officials suspect dry weather conditions and human negligence as possible reasons. Forest department authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could trigger forest fires, especially during dry seasons. An assessment of the damage is being carried out, and further investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire.
