Ganderbal, Feb 7: The Food Safety Department on Friday conducted surprise inspections of road side eateries in Kangan market here.

A team of Food Safety Wing Ganderbal of Drugs and Food Control Organisation inspected roadside eateries of main market Kangan. They said that the department has been conducting regular inspections of eateries in the markets to ensure that they are maintaining proper food handling and preparation practices. The inspections are part of the department's efforts to protect public health and prevent food-borne illnesses.

An official said that inspections are carried out by a team of trained food safety officers who visit eateries unannounced to check for compliance with food safety regulations. The officers check for proper food storage, handling, and preparation practices, as well as the cleanliness and sanitation. During the recent inspections, the food safety team found that some eateries were not maintaining proper food handling and preparation practices. During the said drive all roadside eateries were directed to adhere Schedule-4 of FSS Act-2006, Rules & Regulations-2011 strictly. Also unhygienic and rotten prepared food was destroyed on spot and violators would be prosecuted before the competent court u/s 56 & 58 of FSS Act-2006.
