Foiling of cross-LoC narco smuggling bid | 5 border residents rewarded

Rajouri , June 14:  Five border residents of Nowshera sub division of Rajouri district have been rewarded by Jammu and Kashmir police for foiling cross Line of Control (LoC) narco smuggling bid and effecting recovery of a huge consignment of narcotics.

Police spokesperson in Rajouri said that these residents have been rewarded as they had set a trademark of bravery and patriotic spirit by foiling a major cross border narco smuggling bid which led to recovery of massive consignment in April of running calendar year.

He said that Police Headquarters J&K has sanctioned the reward money of Rs four Lakhs in favour of five border residents (names withheld) for their heroic display of brave and patriotic act.

"The narco smuggling bid was foiled in Village Makdi, which is one of the villages located ahead of Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS), referred to as LoC fence," he said.

Notably contraband heroin weighing as much as 8.5 kilograms was initially recovered with subsequent recovery of 1.44 kilograms making as much as 9.94 kilograms of today recovery by J&K Police in the instant case registered in FIR No 36 of 2024 under sections 8/21/23 NDPS Act of Police Station Nowshera of District Rajouri.

Alongside recoveries of narcotics, spokesperson further said, a major cross border smuggling racket has also been busted following the swift sharing of intelligence by felicitating these border residents.

As much as four smugglers have been arrested and interrogated so far with continued efforts to unearth other linkages- transnational as well as those operating from own side of LoC, the spokesperson narrated in the official statement.

J&K Police has once again reiterated its firm resolve to carry forward its fight against transnational crimes especially narco, terror and narco-terror crimes by seeking and motivating general public’s active participation in noble cause.
