Flood preparedness meeting convened

Ganderbal, Apr 29:  In light of the inclement weather conditions prevailing in the Valley, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, today convened a comprehensive meeting to review the flood preparedness measures across the district. The meeting, held in the V.C Room of the DC Office was attended by the key officials from various line departments.

During the meeting, the DC took a thorough assessment of the arrangements in place to tackle potential flood situations, which included deployment of dewatering pumps, provision of sandbags, logistical arrangements, identification of waterlogged areas, establishment of control rooms, and ensuring the availability of essential supplies such as medicines and rations.

Additionally, plans for rescue operations were deliberated upon, including the identification of suitable holding places for evacuees. Instructing the concerned departments, the DC emphasized the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impact of floods.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department was tasked with compiling a list of households in low-lying areas, along with the preparation of DPR for both long and short-term measures in such areas.
