Flash floods wreak havoc in Thathri town of J&K’s Doda
Bhadarwah, June 28: Flash floods triggered by a cloudburst wreaked havoc in Thathri market of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning, inundating vast areas along the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway, however no injury or loss of life was reported so far.
The cloudburst followed by flash floods at 3 am in the morning resulted in huge mudslides that entered in the entire market area of Thathri town and couple of residential houses on Batote-Kishtwar NH 244 beside some parked vehicles also got trapped in the debris.
When contacted, SDM Thathri Masood Ahmed Bichoo, said, "Although the mudslide caused by the sudden cloudburst was huge but luckily the flash floods struck near Army gate, which is less populated. Although heaps of mud and debris swept the entire market area but there was no major loss and we started restoration work at 4am.”
"As of now, traffic has been partially restored on the highway and by afternoon all the debris will be cleared from the market area," SDM added.
On July 20, 2017, cloudburst wreaked havoc in Thathri town in which one dozen structures located near Jamia Masjid got washed away and several people received injuries.
Several residential houses and roadside parked vehicles were also damaged partially in flash floods triggered by cloudburst in the town.
Doda-Kishtwar highway was also suspended for vehicular movement for hours due to flash floods however the movement was restored at around 07:30 in the morning.
