Five quintals of unhygienic snacks seized in Srinagar
Srinagar, Oct 9: Continuing crackdown on unsafe foods and safeguarding public health, a team of Food Safety Officers, led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar today raided a snack manufacturing unit in Srinagar peripheries. While five quintal of unhygienic snacks (Namkeem) were seized, the unit was also sealed.
A press handout from the department said that the unit was found operating without a license and under unacceptably unhygienic conditions. It was sealed on the spot, halting all future production. Authorities confiscated five quintals of namkeen snacks, including katlam and finni. Samples were collected for laboratory analysis.
The department sais a complaint under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS) 2006, Rules, and Regulations 2011 will be filed in court soon.
Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, Smitha Sethi has issued a stern warning to all Food Business Operators in J&K, seeking strict compliance with the Food Safety laws.
