Anantnag/Kulgam, May 25:   An enthusiastic wave of first-time voters thronged the polling stations in the districts of Anantnag and Kulgam here and young voters, eager to exercise their democratic rights, formed long queues, reflecting their aspirations for a better future and effective governance.

At a polling station in the Ashmuqam area of Anantnag, 19-year-old Sameer Ahmad was among the first to cast his vote. "This is my first time voting, and I feel excited and hopeful. I want to see changes in our area, especially in terms of job opportunities for the youth," he said. Sameer, like many others, expressed concerns over unemployment, which remains a significant issue in the region.

In Kulgam, 18-year-old Arifa Begum shared her experience after casting her vote at the Mirhama polling station. "I have been waiting for this day. We need leaders who can address our problems, like inflation and development. Our voice matters, and today, I made sure it was heard," she said with a sense of pride.

The turnout of first-time voters was notably high, indicating a strong desire for participation in the democratic process. Zahid Malik (20) from the Pahalgam area highlighted the importance of voting. "Voting is our right and responsibility. If we want to see progress and development, we must participate in the elections. This is our chance to make a difference," he stated.

Many young voters echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for better infrastructure, education, and healthcare facilities. At the Mattan polling station in Anantnag, 21-year-old Sana Mir said, "Our area has been neglected for too long. We need representatives who will genuinely work for our welfare. I voted today with the hope that things will change for the better."

The enthusiasm among first-time voters was palpable, as they lined up with a mix of excitement and determination. In Nihama, Kulgam, 19-year-old Bilal Shah expressed his optimism. "This election is crucial for us. We are the future of this region, and our vote is our voice. I hope our leaders listen to us and work towards improving our living conditions," he remarked.

The presence of first-time voters was not limited to urban areas. In rural parts of Anantnag and Kulgam, young voters were equally eager to participate. At a polling station in Qazigund, 20-year-old Ayesha Bano highlighted the need for better educational facilities. "We need more schools and colleges in our area. Education is the key to a better future, and our leaders must prioritize this," she said.
