Standing firm in justice relates to being God’s witness. Justice may not be compromised, come what may, as standing for justice means seeking God’s favour. Swerving in serving the cause justice means deviation from what God desires:

O you who believe! Stand firmly for justice, as witness to God, even if it is against yourselves, or your parents, or your relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, God takes care of both. So, do not follow your desires, lest you swerve. If you deviate or turn away, then God is Aware of what you do’’ (4: 135)

Justice should prevail. Justice depends mainly on evidence. In standing for justice, being God’s witness implies standing for God and God alone, instead of standing for one party or another. One has to hold on to truth in giving evidence, be it against you, your parents or against your own kith and kin. Status or societal standing may not matter, while standing as a witness, rich or poor may be treated alike, as God takes Care of both. It also implies that you may not follow your own instincts, lest you swerve from testifying for justice. It also follows that there may be no aversion in standing as a witness, if it helps the cause of justice, as God is Ever and Always Aware of what you do.

In standing for justice and just causes, it needs to be remembered that belief in God, his Messenger, the Holy Book he send down to his Messenger, and in the Books He sent before is imperative, as noted in the Ayah following the one noted above:

‘’O you who believe! Believe in God and His Messenger, and the Book He sent down to His Messenger, and the Books He sent down before. Whosoever rejects God, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, has strayed far in error’’ (4:136)
