Fire Service day observed in Srinagar
Srinagar, Apr 14: As the Fire Service Week was kicked off across J&K, a major function was held here in Srinagar.
On the occasion, senior officials from the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) department participated. The week is observed throughout the country every year from April 14 to 20 to make public aware of the fire prevention and precautionary measures.
Officials from Fire & Emergency Services said that in this regard a number of programmes are being launched throughout the week for mass public awareness.
The department observed the day in Srinagar to commemorate the gallant Firemen who laid their lives while safeguarding life and property of masses during rescue and fire-fighting operations.
Deputy Director, F&E Services, Aqib Hussain said that the day is observed to remember those who laid their lives for the safety of the masses. He said throughout the week, special awareness programs will also be held.
“Various activities are in line for the week that include commemoration parade, medical camp, demonstration of fire fighting and safety, flag march and other activities.
There will also be various cultural programs including sports activities and drawing competitions. Aim is to remember those who laid their lives and also spread mass awareness about the program,” Husain said.
The officials emphasised the role of Fire & Emergency Services under this year's slogan, “Ensure Fire Safety, Contribute Towards Nation Building”.
The officials also apprised about the mass awareness programmes that the department held in educational, Health and other institutions under the guidance of the Director Fire & Emergency Services Jammu and Kashmir.
